"Animal Queue - Solid line-ups stretching from the Horton Market building to Celestine Street, were the order of the day, Tuesday, as the annual anti-rabies vaccination clinic got underway. More than 700 animals were inoculated between 2:30 and 4:30 p.m., and 5:30 and 7:30 p.m., and officials expect even more will receive the free shots today. The same time periods apply. The clinic is sponsored by the city and the federal department of agriculture's health of animals division." (6a)
"Rabies Clinic - The second and final day of a free anti-rabies vaccination clinic will be held today between 2:30 and 4:30 p.m., and 5:30 and 7:30 p.m., at the Horton Market. Above, Dr. J. Dancey of the local health of animals branch, federal department of agriculture, is shown administering a painless shot to a cat, one of more than 700 animals to receive a vaccination, Tuesday. Dr. Dancey urges all pet-owners--even those whose animals received a shot last year--to bring them out to the clinic again today." (6b)

Two black and white photographs used in St. Thomas Times-Journal article published September 2, 1976 with captions:
"Nine-year-old Marion Bruinsma and her mother, Mrs. Janet Bruinsma, right, accept one of the dogs from the animal shelter on Burwell Road. Mrs. Myrna Loveless, left, and Mrs. Margje Okkerse, behind, have been working voluntarily mornings for the last three months, cleaning and feeding the animals and trying to find homes for them rather than allow them to be destroyed. In six months, over 200 dogs have been taken, and Mrs. Loveless proudly reports that "not a single one has come back to the pound". Mrs. Loveless initiated the project of saving the dogs by obtaining donations to pay the board for the animals and advertising in the local paper for homes for them. (Photo by Brian Wilsdon)." (19a)
"Love for animals has prompted these youngsters to raise money to donate to Mrs. Myrna Loveless' drive to find homes for dogs taken in by the animal shelter and normally destroyed. They have opened their own vegetable stand, with all proceeds going to the project. In the picture, Baron, three-month-old Doberman pinscher is the centre of attention while held by Richard McNicol. The others pictured from left are: Blair Tully, Baron's owner, Kathy Simpson, Sherri McNicol and Chad Moyes, all of Centennial Avenue. (Photo by Brian Wilsdon)." (19b)

Like receiving a letter from a dog. That happened to Bill Lindsay, the city's licensing officer, today. Duffy, a one-and-a-half-year-old Collie owned by the Don Edminstons of 42 East Street, was the author of the note. Scope and Content
Black and white photograph used in St. Thomas Times-Journal article published September 17, 1971 with caption: "Never a Dull Moment - Henry Van Eggelen (above) shows why he is the city's animal control officer and not merely the dogcatcher. The nannygoat was noticed by Scott Street and Hiawatha Street residents, wandering around the area, Thursday afternoon. While it may have gotten the residents' goat it didn't bother Mr. Van Eggelen, who said the animal offered little resistance. The goat--spectulation has it the name is Emma or Irma--was taken to the city's dog pound, where she was given her very own suite."
