Making the presentation, Thursday afternoon, were left to right: Orlando Butcher, divisional master mechanic; Mr. Larson, the recipient; Charles Smale, superintendent of the Canadian Division of the C. & O. Photographs of Mr. Harry Sadler at his retirement presentation. Caption from St. Thomas Times-Journal on June 17, 1950, page one: “C. & O. Man Honored on Retirement.” 2_3940: “Thirty-five years of efficient service is the Per Marquette and latterly the Chesapeake and Ohio car repair shops in St. Thomas was recognized, Friday noon, when the men in the back shops and the round-house presented a handsome travelling bag to Harry Sadler, 347 Wellington street, city, on his retirement on pension. The presentation was made to Mr. Sadler by Tom McKenzie and Harry Robertson, who are on either side of Mr. Sadler in the above photograph. Mr. Sadler was a carpenter in the car department during his long service with the railroad. George Douglas, 50 Regent street, also retired on pension, Friday after some 35 years of service as a machinist’s helper, but ill health prevented him from attending the presentation sermon. A similar gift of a travelling bag was sent to him at his home.”

He began work for the railway on March 25, 1929 and his retirement was effective November 30, 1962. Image was published in the St. Thomas Times-Journal with the following caption: "RETIRES FROM C&O - Charles H. Overholt, electrical engineer with the C. & O. Railroad since 1950 and employee since 1929 was feted at a dinner party at the Grand Central Hotel last night by his friends, fellow workers and their wives on the occasion of his retirement."

The presentation was made at an event in St. Thomas that honoured a total of 14 retiring employees. The image was published in the St. Thomas Times-Journal with the following caption: "SERVICE PLAQUES PRESENTED - Some 14 men who have retired recently from the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway received plaques commemorating their service to the company at a retirment party held Saturday night at the Legion Hall in St. Thomas. More than 200 friends and fellow employees filled the hall for the dinner and dance. Shown here is J.J. Photograph taken by Stollery Photographic Service on the occasion of Sam McCain's retirement from the Pere Marquette / Chesapeake and Ohio Railway. 37 inidividuals are pictured surrounding Locomotive No. 1034, with Sam McCain at centre. Photographs of members of the Chesapeake and Ohio railway with Alex Larson at his retirement. Caption from St. Thomas Times-Journal on August 1, 1950, page one: “Chesapeake & Ohio Chief Clerk is Honored On Retirement.” 1_137: “The entire shops force at the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway in St. Thomas turned out early Monday afternoon to honor Alex Larson, chief clerk to the master mechanic of the Canadian Division, on his retirement on pension, after more than 50 years of continuous service. Mr. Larson set a record for long service on the Canadian Division and was recently presented with a gold pass certificate by the C. & O. president. He was presented with a gold, engraved wristwatch by the St. Thomas terminal forces, Monday, with Orlando Butcher, division master mechanic making the presentation, and Harry Roberts, veteran boilermaker, delivering the address. The presentation ceremony took place outside the power-house. Mr. Larson stated his long career of railroading in Muskegon, Michigan, on March 19, 1900, with the Pere Marquette Railroad, was transferred to Grand Rapids in May, 1904, then to Walkerville, Ont., on November 24, 1904, and a month later, on December 24, 1904, he came to St. Thomas wit the Pere Marquette, to become the first chief clerk to the divisional master mechanic – a position he held ever since. He will continue to reside in Elm street.”
