Black and white photograph used in St. Thomas Times-Journal article published August 14, 1961 with caption: "St. Thomas' large and well cared for Athletic Park is located at the foot of the St. George St. hill. With a wide variety of activities always taking place, this park is recognized as the most popular complete sports grounds in this area. Beginning in September the grounds are in use by the local high schools for football practice and scheduled games... as well as public school "Tiny Touch" football games. City schools also use the facilities of the Athletic Park for track and field meets, cadet drills and inspections and school gym classes. Minor League baseball is played on one of the three large diamonds available. many evenings are enjoyed by St. Thomas model airplane clubs as they put the grounds to use as a landing strip. Athletic park boasts two local soccer teams which play their scheduled home games here. Last year one of these fine teams went on to win the district championship. Recently a building has been erected and equipped with modern, up-to-date changing rooms."

User Comments
In July 2020, Steve Peters commented on Facebook: "The earliest record of a baseball game being played in St.Thomas that I have found is 1869. The Diamond at Pinafore Park opened in 1898, making it one of the oldest in Canada. Thanks to Covid, no games will likely be played this year. The Wooden grand stand was burned in 1936".
