Three black and white photographs used in St. Thomas Times-Journal article published June 21, 1971 with captions:
"Campers' Circle- The 40 mentally retarded trainees at Friendco Workshop and students from Friendship School who spent the weekend at Pearce-Williams Camp near Iona Station had plenty of time for hiking during their three-day stay. A group of the youngsters and their counsellors, 18 students from Central Elgin Collegiate Institute under guidance teacher David Holmes, are shown above stopping for a short rest before continuing their trek. The weekend camp was sponsored by the Friendco Workshop." (20a)
"Fresh-Up Time- Chief counsellors Millie Malavsky (second from right) and Jim McGregor (right) see that the campers attending the weekend camp-out for retarded children at Pearce-Williams Camp freshen up before lunchtime. Some 40 trainees from Friendco Workshop and students from Friendship School attended the three-day camp on the weekend. It was all part of their Life Experience Training (LET) to give them a taste of the activities and recreation enjoyed by normal youngsters and to better prepare them for their adult life." (20b)
"A Walk In The Woods- Friendco Workshop for the Mentally Retarded sponsored what is believed to be the first camp-out ever for all the trainees at a mentally retarded rehabilitation centre in the province during the weekend. The camp which started Friday night and ended Sunday afternoon, included activities like swimming, hiking, crafts and games which are a regular part of the program at the Pearce-Williams Camp. Some of the trainees and counsellors, the majority of them students from the Central Elgin Collegiate Institute Band, take a walk through the Southwold Earthworks near the camp in the above picture."
