Description
The object is a bridle for a showhorse. It is composed of a brown leather, with metal buckles, bit, and curb chain. Otherwise, the bridle has a crownpiece, browband, throat latch, cheek pieces, snaffle reins, and curb reins. The bit is a pelham bit, with a "broken" mouthpiece, O-rings, and highly decorative shanks (composed of swirls or curls which end in small heart shapes). The bridle is broken, and exists in four pieces. A belonging of Rosamond Celia Caroline Sweet. Visible on her showhorse, Billy, in image 2020-014-0085. Description
The objects are a matching pair of girths, used to attach a saddle (namely sidesaddle 2020-014-0081) to a horse. These would be used in tandem as opposed to a trifold girth with multiple buckles at each end. They are composed of thick cotton, 2.5 inches wide. One of the girths has a buckle at each end, attached to the girth by a strip of brown leather. One of the buckles is missing from the other. Horse hair stuck in cotton at places.
