Saxtontown was just west of a bend on Otter Creek between Port Burwell and Vienna. William Saxton and his wife Margaret Edison started the village in the 1820s, but because the larger towns of Vienna and Port Burwell were realitively nearby the village was doomed to failure. A road was surveyed to the site along the line between the farms later owned by Elijah Haines and Walter Chute, but it was never opened.
