Butterfat testing bottles. Testing the butterfat of the milk from the cow and in the factories. Wanted to know how much butterfat each cow would give you. Would use large covered testers to do it. All of the numbers on the bottle were used after the acid was added, hot and cold water and centrifuge. Calipers were used to measure the butterfat. All of the information was recorded Would sell the cow with the lowest butter fat. You would usually check once every 24 hrs., once a month. Government inspector would come (a surprise visit) and would check purebread cattle. They would eat with you and stay as well. They took their own samples so no one could 'cheat'. Bottles were numbered and cows were names. Each cow had own number. Night sample would sit in a crate overnight. Used the same procedure for the morning sample. Also recorded number of lbs of milk came from each cow. Night or morning didn't matter re. butterfat. It was usually be about the same. Feb. 2. 2012 Andy. Different bottles for different jobs ie. measuring butterfat, measuring milk, etc. Booklets or catalogues of bottles would tell you the different uses.
2 components in total.
