"Words Of Welcome- Harold E. Stafford, MP for Elgin, and Ron. K. McNeil, MPP for Elgin, were among the dignitaries who welcomed ACWW visitors to Elgin County yesterday. Two busloads of guests, representing ten countries, were in Elgin and St. Thomas as part of a pre-conference tour which preceded their attending the Associated Country Women of the World's Triennial Conference being held from September 3 to 14 in East Lansing, Mich. Left to right are Mrs. E. Findlay, Australia; Mr. McNeil; Mrs. B. Castleward, national WI president of Rhodesia; Mrs. M. Matthews, South Africa; Mr. Stafford; Mrs. C. M. Charles, New Zealand; Miss J. "Interesting Visitors- Ten countries were represented when visitors came to Elgin County on Monday as part of their pre-conference ACWW tour. The women are all members of the Associated Country Women of the World, and are en route to East Lansing, Mich., to attend the ACWW Triennial Conference, which some 5,000 women from all parts of the world will attend. A representative group is pictured. They are, from left to right, Mrs. H. Martins, South Africa; Mrs. A. B. MacKay, Scotland; Mrs. Mira Chaudhuri, India, whose brother-in-law is India's ambassador to Canada; Mrs. Albert Auckland, president of Payne's Mills Women's Institute, who entertained the group at luncheon; Mrs. R. D. Roberts, from the Isle of Man, who will represent Tasmania at the conference; Mrs. Muller van der Wielen of The Netherlands."

Black and white photograph used in St. Thomas Times-Journal article published June 18, 1957 with caption: "Committee of Thirteen - And here are the ladies of the Paynes' Mills Women's Institute who never fail to put up a wonderful dinner. They discovered when the above photograph was taken that they were a committee of thirteen, but said they weren't superstitious anyway and there were certainly no complaints about the dinner. In the group are Mrs. Vermont Pow, branch president; Mrs. Garfield Smith, convener; Mrs. Ken Bawden, first vice-president; Mrs. Tom Blackman, second vice-president; Mrs. William Meek, Mrs. Harry Lewis, Mrs. Sherman Dawdy, Mrs. Ross Berdan, Mrs. Gordon Lyle, Mrs. Ken Small, Mrs. Harry Eatough, Mrs. Morley Adams and Mrs. Alex Shiell."

Mrs. Blackman was presented with a life membership pin on the occasion."
