The tea tables were the centre of attraction, arranged as they were with accessories borrowed for the occasion from the museum's displays. Left to right are Mrs. J. E. Sullivan, regent of the 25th Elgin Regimental Chapter, IODE; Mrs. R. B. Irvine, St. Thomas Municipal Chapter, IODE, regent; Mrs. Victor DeGraw (pouring), Rodney, a member of Rodney WI and wife of the reeve of the West Elgin community; Mrs. Douglas Todd, West Lorne, a member of that village's WI branch and wife of West Lorne's reeve. Mr. Todd and Mr. DeGraw are both members of the museum board. The annual tea is arranged by members of Elgin County's 32 WI branches, and of St. Thomas IODE chapters."

Black and white photograph used in St. Thomas Times-Journal article published May 20, 1967 with caption: "The Ceremony of Sipping Tea - Of all the pleasant ways women meet together for a pet "cause" none is more enjoyable than the custom of exchanging pleasantries over a cup of tea. This can be said to be especially true of the annual Elgin Pioneer Museum tea, which is sponsored jointly by members of the Women's Institute of Elgin County and the IODE Chapters of St. Thomas. Held yesterday afternoon and evening at the museum amid a patriotic setting of flags, in keeping with the Centennial year, the event was an unqualified success. Mrs. M. C. Moore is pouring while standing from left to right are Mrs. Bruce Paker, Mrs. R. D. Macdonald, Mrs. Herbert Jackson, Mrs. John Wise, Mrs. Albert Auckland and Mrs. Charles Phillips. Centennial dress was the order of the day."

Black and white photograph used in St. Thomas Times-Journal article published June 8, 1970 with caption: "Museum Tea A Successful Event - Due to the combined efforts of two women's organizations, the annual tea at the Elgin County Pioneer Museum on Friday afternoon and evening was again a successful venture. Members of the East and West Elgin District Women's Institutes and the city IODE chapters were more than pleased to greet so many friends, who came to enjoy a cup of tea and browse through the interesting rooms. Miss Marion E. Stewart, a member of Tonti Chapter, who represents the chapter on advisory committee of the museum board, is seen chatting with Mrs. Colin Morrison, wife of the Elgin County council representative on the museum executive board, who was pouring tea at one of the beautifully-appointed tea tables."

Black and white photograph used in St. Thomas Times-Journal article published August 12, 1964 with caption: "Gift to Museum - This antique desk, believed to be almost two centuries old and made of burled walnut is a very unusual and beautiful piece of furniture. The top of the desk is used primarily for books but now holds a set of dishes for exhibition purposes. Sitting on the desk is a very old inkwell made of glass with an overlay of silver. Its lace-like design is quite beautiful. John MacColl of London and his daughter Mrs. Helen Pringle, donated the desk, the dishes and the inkwell to the Elgin County Pioneer Museum. Both Mr. MacColl and Mrs. Pringle have been generous contributors to the Museum."

Scope and Content
Four black and white photographs used in St. Thomas Times-Journal article published May 28, 1963 with captions:
"Along Kettle Creek - The late W. St. Thomas Smith was considered to have been St. Thomas' foremost artist. He painted many pictures, among them the C.N.R. Wabash Station, the early Port Stanley harbor, the boat house at Port Stanley, a sketch about 1890 and one entitled Along Kettle Creek. The latter painting is shown and is part of an exhibition to be displayed at the Elgin County Museum until June 15." (31a)
"Gravel Road Toll-Gate - Although Mrs. St. Thomas Smith, wife of the well-known local artist, was primarily a scuptress, she painted a number of pictures that are note-worthy. One of these, above, is of the old toll-gate on the Gravel Road, and was made in 1887. The structure stood on the north east corner of the property now occupied by the restaurant on No. 4 Highway at Talbotville." (31b)
"Highly-Regarded - F. M. Bell-Smith was in the 1880's an art teacher at Alma College and worked later in Toronto where his paintings were highly regarded. The above picture shows three art students at Alma College and is part of an exhibition that will be on display at the Elgin Pioneer Museum until June 15." (31c)
"Early Liberal Rally - The painting above is of a Liberal Rally in St. Thomas, and was painted in 1893 by Ross Osgood, early artist of this community. The picture shows Sir Wilfred Laurier making a speech and behind him on the platform are Liberal notables of St. Thomas including the late Senator Dr. John H. Wilson, J. B. Davidson, Q.C.; Donald McNish, Squire Hunt and John Thompson. The key to this picture, which is the property of the Sutherland Press, has been lost, and anyone able to provide one is asked to contact officials at the Elgin County Museum." (31d)

Black and white photograph used in St. Thomas Times-Journal article published May 16, 1959 with caption: "The above illustration is a baby buggy recently presented to the museum--largely through the efforts of Mrs. Selena Voaden, 62 Hincks street, St. Thomas. This buggy has been on display in Greenfield Village, Dearborn, since 1952. It was loaned with the understanding that if a museum was ever established in Elgin County, it would come back here. The buggy arrived last week and is in a good state of preservation. This baby buggy was made by William Smith, blacksmith, of Talbotville, Ontario, about the year 1865, and years later became a keepsake of his grandson, William H. Lucas, of Windsor, now deceased. It has been presented by Mrs. Lucas to this museum for historic purposes and safe keeping. Mrs. Selena Voaden, St. Thomas, is a daughter of Mr. Smith and is the only living member of the family."
