Ninety-degree Fahrenheit, high humidity and threatening rain could have combined to limit the crowd.”

Several age classes and groups enabled many girls to compete. Some of the dancers were from New York, New Jersey and Michigan. The young girl on the left seems to wonder where everyone else has gone wrong." (18a)
"Spectators Gather - The crowd started to gather early at yesterday's Dutton Highland Games to ensure they did not miss out on any of the competitions. This shot was taken about mid-day. The people were watching the dancing events." (18b)
"Pipe Band Winners - Competition in the pipe band classes at the Dutton Highland Games yesterday proved keen with 15 entries vying for first class honors. The St. Thomas Police Association band under Pipe Major Gordon Tuck managed two firsts in the events. Seen here with their trophies are, left to right: Gordon Tuck holding trophies for the March, Strathspey and Reel, first class, and the Open Slow March class; Pipe Major Alex Robertson, Highland House Highlanders, Woodstock, first in Grade 2; and Pipe Major Bill McLeod, Bruce County Junior Pipe Band, Kincardine, first in Grade 3." Events included the traditional caber toss which could only be accomplished by one person, Paul Bidwell, extreme left, of Syracuse, N.Y. Paul also won the 56-pound toss. Other winners, left to right, are: Fred Quick, Glencoe, winner of the pole vault; Skip Phoenix, Aylmer, winner in the long jump; Mike Cavotta, Cleveland, Ohio, winner in the shotput; and Garry Shulman, Timmins, Ont., winner in the high jump."
