Black and white photograph used in St. Thomas Times-Journal article published July 27, 1972 with caption: "The Zoo Story - The Talbot Shivaree elephant, constructed for last year's festivities by the Locke's Community Club, will be used again this year for promoting the Shivaree. Monday night, members of the Shivaree's publicity committee moved Jumbo II from the barn on South Edgeware Road, where it had been stored, to the Charterways Bus Line garage where it was to be refitted. Unfortunately, the door if the garage did not comply with the size of the beast and the publicity committee looked elsewhere for a home. The elephant was finally lodged in the yard of the St. Thomas Public Utilities Commission for the night."

Physical Description
1 photograph : b&w ; 10 x 20.5 cm
Scope and Content
Black and white photograph used in St. Thomas Times-Journal article published November 2, 1953 with caption: "This Isn't Funny- Hallowe'en pranksters, with what many people believe is a perverted sense of humor, used whitewash to label in letters, 3 or 4 feet high, on the uncompleted arena and community centre in Wilson avenue, as 'White Elephant No. 2.' The pranksters evidently look upon the Brewery 'skeleton' in Talbot street east as 'White Elephant No. 1.' The 'decorating' of the arena was done Saturday night under cover of darkness, while most young people in the city were celebrating Hallowe'en in orderly fashion. At the left of the picture is a crudely painted cardboard, bearing the words, 'This is a lemon.' The whole thing is more than a joke to the ratepayers of St. Thomas who in a month's time are being asked to endorse a bylaw for $210,000 to complete the structure. The feeling is quite general in the city that St. Thomas cannot afford to let the unfinished arena become a 'white elephant.' One ratepayer, who has heretofore had nothing to do with the work on the arena, no doubt expressed the view of other ratepayers when he said: 'Although some pranksters have called the new arena a white elephant, the people of St. Thomas must see that it never happens; the building must be finished. St. Thomas does not want any 'white elephants'. The money put into it must not be wasted. When the people vote to finish it the ratepayers will have a building worth half a million dollars at only two-fifths of the cost.' "
