History / Biographical
The 1940 International Plowing Match and Farm Machinery Demonstration was held in Elgin County October 15-18, 1940, on lands adjacent to the Technical Training School (formerly and subsequently the Ontario Psychiatric Hospital), St. Thomas, Ontario and on Bannockburn Farms, property of Mitchell F. Hepburn, then Premier of Ontario. The event was held under the auspices of the Ontario Plowmen's Association, with extensive organization by the Elgin County Plowmen's Association.
Custodial History
This copy print was mailed to Jenny Phillips from The London Free Press in 1984.
Scope and Content
Copy print of plowing at the 1940 International Plowing Match, on lands adjacent to the Technical Training School. The man is possibly identified as Bill Shackleton of Belmont, brother of the auctioneer.

Clipping announcing that Achiel Vankerrebroeck, of RR 1, LaSalette, won the Rothman Gold Leaf Trophy as the top flue-cured tobacco grower in Canada in 1961. The winning crop was produced by sharegrower Richard Beneff, who is pictured with curer Archie Haskins, of North Carolina. The trophy will be presented at the Tillsonburg Fair.
