Scope and Content
"London & Port Stanley Railway train stops at a passenger shelter in Union, April 20, 1952", ca. 1985. On the back of the postacard, it states: "A southbound London & Port Stanley train pauses at the small passenger shelter at Union, Ontario, on April 20, 1952. The three cars, Nos. 16, 23 and 8, were acquired from the Milwaukee Electric Railway and Light Co. in 1941 to handle extra wartime passenger service on the L7PS. Two of the cars are preserved at the Illinois Railway Museum. But the station survives in its original location, hosting passengers on the diesel-powered Port Stanley Terminal Rail, which operates the southern portion of the former L&PS. Port Stanley is on Lake Erie, about 50 km. south of London".

"London & Port Stanley Railway car goes across Zavitts Pond viaduct, July 13, 1952", ca. 1985. On the back of the postcard, it states: "On July 13, 1952, London & Port Stanley Railway car 14 drifts across Zavitts Pond viaduct. Car 14 is now at the Canadian Railway Museum near Montreal, but the 226-foot long bridge, built in 1896, still rumbles to the sound of the diesel-powered excursion trains of Port Stanley Terminal Rail, which operates this portion of the former L&PS. Trains leave from Port Stanley, Ontario, on Lake Erie, about 50 km south of London".

"London & Port Stanley Bridge St. station, Feb. 17, 1957", ca. 1985. On the back of the postcard, it states: "The platform of the London & Port Stanley's Bridge St. Station in Port Stanley is busy with excursion passengers on Feb. 17, 1957, as cars #14 and 8 form a special train from London. Both cars have since gone to museums, but the station continues to serve as a passenger terminal for thousands of annual tourists who ride the diesel-powered excursion trains of Port Stanley Terminal Rail each year. PSTR has operated the St. Thomas-Port Stanley section of the former L&PS since 1983. Port Stanley is located on Lake Erie, about 50 km. south of London".

"London & Port Stanley Railway excursion train, Feb. 17, 1957", ca. 1985. On the back of the postcard, it states: "It's Feb. 17, 1957, as passengers on a special London & Port Stanley excursion train stop to inspect the small shelter at Yarmouth (Stop 14) north of St. Thomas. The shelter was known as a flagstop, with passengers raising the pole-mounted "flag" to signal approaching trains. It is still possible to travel over a portion of the L&PS, on the diesel-powered excursion trains of Port Stanley Terminal Rail. Port Stanley is located on Lake Erie, about 50 kn. south of London".

Coaches on the No. 12 Type are 72 foot, all steel, 500 horsepower motor cars, equipped general passenger smoking and express baggage compartments. London & Port Stanley Railway- A southbound train pauses at the small passenger shelter at Union, Ontario, on April 20, 1952. The three cars, #16, 23 and 18 (Kuhlman, 1909, St. Louis, 1907) were acquired from the Milwaukee Electric Railway and Light Co. in 1941, with coach 21, part of a 4-set purchase, to handle extra wartime passenger service on the L. & PS Railway. Two of the cars are preserved at the Illinois Railway Museum. Car #23 is now part part of a house at 34 Alberta Street, Grand Bend. But the Station survives in its original location, hosting passengers on the diesel-powered Port Stanley Terminal Rail, which operates the southern portion of the former L & PS Railway. Port Stanley is located on Lake Erie, about 50 km. south of London, Ontario.

London & Port Stanley Railway- Freight motor L1 pauses at the small passenger shelter at Union, that Port Stanley Terminal Rail Inc. operates over the old L & PS Railway. Built by G.E> (Erie Works) in 1915 and now owned by the St. Thomas-Elgin County Railwway Museum. After restoration, the L & PS L1 is enroute to the Port Stanley station for the August 1, 2004 weekend. Photo by Rob Sterne.
