Scope and Content
A black and white photograph showing the Talbotville Baseball Team. The following individuals are pictured: Back row, left to right: Harry Beal (third base), William Styles (first base), Art Collins (centre field), Fred Lumley (right field). Middle row, left to right: Fred Knight (pitcher), George Powles (centre field), J. Huff (left field). Bottom row, left to right: Clarence Knight (second base) and Earl Smith (short stop). A typed caption with the photograph reads: "In 1906, nine Talbotville ball players organized a team and joined the St. Thomas City League. They played all of their home games on the old ball field on a portion of the John R. Auckland farmstead. They were successful in their efforts and emerged as the undisputed champions--largely through the outstanding achievements of their pitcher, Fred Knight. They chose to be known as "The Champions of Talbotville". Two of the players were grandchildren of Sam Knight and third, Fred Lumley was married to Edith Kettlewell, a granddaughter of Sam. On his fourth birthday, May 9, 2016, Myles Alexander Nicol, a great-great-great grandson of Sam Knight, made his baseball debut as a member of the Talbotville Optimist Junior Baseball Club. Sam Knight would be most pleased and proud."
