Physical Description
5 photographs : b&w ; 16 x 11.5 cm or smaller
Scope and Content
Five black and white photographs used in St. Thomas Times-Journal article published November 5, 1965 with captions:
" Defeat is always a bitter pill to swallow, but Jim McBain, defeated PC member of Parliament for Elgin, kept his dissapointment well hidden last night as he congratulated the election victor, Liberal candidate Harold E. Stafford. Here Mr. McBain (centre) and R.K. McNeil, MPP for Elgin (left), grasp Mr Stafford's hands and wish him well." (3a)
" Perserverance paid off for Harold Stafford last night when he ousted James A. McBain, Progressive Conservative MP for Elgin for the past 11 years. In the 1962 election and again in 1963 Mr. Stafford went down to defeat. But last night he was not to be denied. Enthusiasm of his supporters knew no bounds as they hoisted him on their shoulders and carried him around the packed Liberal committee room." (3b)
" Eric Hargreaves (left), New Democratic Party candidate in the Elgin riding who was defeated by Harold E. Stafford, Liberal, in last night's election came to the Times-Journal office to congratulate the winner. Mr. Hargreaves polled 1,512 votes in his attempt to gain the Elgin seat." (3c)
" James A. McBain, defeated Progressive Conservative in last night's federal election, speaks through a loud-hailer at the Times-Journal afer he had conceded the Liberal victory in Elgin. Harold Stafford, who ousted him, stands by as Mr. McBain tells the crowd ' it was a good fight.' " (3d)
" Harold E. Stafford, newly-elected Liberal MP for Elgin, was jubilant following his victory over PC candidate James A. McBain. No less pleased was the St. Thomas lawyer's family, Mrs. Betty Stafford, who gives her husband a buss on the cheek and Bob (left) and John the couple's two sons." (3e)
