"Here she comes! - The Laundry Express, comprising "Patsy-the-engine" and her six bright orange carts, brings a load of laundry into the laundry department of the Ontario Hospital. The Laundry Express daily chugs her way along more than three miles of underground corridors which link the 12 buildings of the hospital to collect and deliver laundry. Black and white photograph used in St. Thomas Times-Journal article published January 10, 1972 with caption: "Honored by Family - James Wilson, (right) of RR 7, St. Thomas, was honored by his family and friends at the German-Canadian Club, Saturday evening, on the occasion of his retirement as a baker from the St. Thomas Psychiatric Hospital, after 13 years service. Before coming to Canada in 1959, Mr. Wilson worked as a baker in Paisley, Scotland. Guenther Gahs (left) of Bramalea, a close friend, presented Mr. Wilson with a Canada Savings Bond and a guest book, in honor of the occasion. Mr. Wilson's son, four daughters and 11 grandchildren attended the banquet. Out-of-town guests were in attendance from Toronto, London, Dutton, Union, and district. Mr. Wilson and his wife, Elizabeth, hope to travel in the near future."

Black and white photograph used in St. Thomas Times-Journal article published March 2, 1972 with caption: "Retired Hospital Employees Honored - The staff at the St. Thomas Psychiatric Hospital held a tea, Wednesday, for 41 former staff members at the hospital who have retired over the past 18 months, the majority of them nurses. Mrs. Jean Leach, right, director of nursing at the hospital, presents corsages to three of the retired staff members. At left is Miss Helen Comfort, who joined the staff when the hospital first opened in 1939, and who retired recently as supervisor of the nursing staff after 35 years' service. Miss Pauline Murray, centre, recently retired after 25 years spent in the medical records office. Ravine Gorvett, second from right, has retired from the cleaning staff after almost 13 years' service."

Black and white photograph used in St. Thomas Times-Journal article published April 6, 1972 with caption: "Undergoing a Change - The smoke stack at the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital is undergoing a change in conjuction with the conversion of the hospital's boiler system from oil to gas. The chimney was lined for protection from deteriation with excessive moisture and at the same time a pollution control device, a refactory (a hood-type device which closes on top of the stack to filter the fumes) was installed. The job of converting the boiler system was awarded to Park Public Works Contractors from Sturgeon Falls for a cost of $47,958 and the chimney modifications were contracted to Tailor Engineering of Toronto at an estimated cost of $6,297."

Black and white photograph used in St. Thomas Times-Journal article published April 12, 1972 with caption: "Hold Annual Dance - About 250 persons from the St. Thomas Friendco Workshop, London, Wookstock, Tillsonburg, Simcoe, St. Thomas Psychiatric Hospital, and senior students of Friendship School, attended the annual dance last night at Central United Church. The music was supplied by "The Eternals", with Cliff Maxwell as master of ceremonies. The Friendco Workshop has been host to the annual dance since 1966, and have had "The Eternals" as the music every year."

Black and white photograph used in St. Thomas Times-Journal article published Friday, October 6, 1972 with caption: "Hospital Aids United Appeal - Paul Dusten, second from left, assistant personnel officer at the St. Thomas Psychiatric Hospital accepts a donation to the St. Thomas-Elgin United Welfare Services from patients, Thursday. Mr. Dusten is co-chairman of the Ontario government employees division of the appeal campaign. Staff members at the Hospital have reached the $4,000 mark of their $5,000 goal, and, although not solicited, patients expressed a desire to contribute to the campaign as well. Their money was raised through sales from a vegetable garden and from industrial therapy workshops. Presenting the cheque for $117 are patients from the No. 5 Pavilion Workshop and the Industrial Therapy section. At left is Miss Helen Somers, supervisor of activities and crafts at the hospital."

Black and white photograph used in St. Thomas Times-Journal article published Friday, October 27, 1972 with caption: "Don't Drop It - A 30-ton boiler is hoisted off a transport at the St.Thomas Psychiatric Hospital, this morning, before being lowered...with only inches to spare...about 55 feet, through a hole in the roof, into the hospital's power plant. The boiler, one of two new units built in St. Catharines, will complete conversion of the plant from coal to gas and oil. The plant's other two boilers have been converted over the past two years."
