Scope and Content
Two black and white photographs used in St. Thomas Times-Journal article published December 11, 1959 with caption: "Paintings For Aylmer Rotarians - During one of the Christmas parties for the patients of the St. Thomas Ontario Hospital, held at the hospital last night, members of the Aylmer Rotary Club were presented with two paintings, done by two of the patients they had visited during the year. Each Thursday evening, five members of the club visit the hospital and play cards and pool with the patients. In the picture on the left [C8 Sh5 B1 F26 13a], Arthur Banner, Rotary Club president, holds the paintings as he receives them from Don Mannen, centre, and Cecil Bigelow, who made the presentations on behalf of the hospital. Later in the evening the Rotarians presented the hospital with four horseshoe pitching sets. In the right hand picture [C8 Sh5 B1 F26 13b], Nick Dowhan, left, and Ed White accept the gifts from Walter Thoms, right, vice-president of the Rotary Club, as Santa Claus waves his approval. Ten members of the Rotary Club, with their wives, were at the party last night which over 80 patients attended. The party consisted of a sing song, led by the Rotarians and the Music Therapy Department, tricks by magician Bert Rennie, an accordion solo by John Del Cue, cornet solos by Roland Bailey, and renditions by the vocal quartette. Dr. K.M. McGregor, assistant superintendent, welcomed the guests, and the evening concluded with a visit from Santa Claus, who with the assistance of the Occupational Therapy Department, made sure everybody had a gift."
