Twenty nine nurses received their diplomas and pins, and will prepare themselves to write their Registered Nurses examinations to qualify for their degrees. The picture of efficiency and beauty in their white uniforms and holding bouquets of crimson roses, their smiles reflect the happiness of accomplishment. From left to right they are: front row, Mary Jane Powell; Betty May Sellars; Beverley Ann Moffatt; Sandra Diane Martin; Sheila Joan O'Neil; Mary Jane Thompson; Barbara Anne Yorke; Charlene Bennett McClurg. Second row: Ann Margaret Burnard; Margaret Ann McLellan; Brenda Adelle Blair; Deanna Marie McKinnon; Margaret Edith McKinnon; Mary Margaret McIntyre; Carolyn Joyce Esseltine; Gloria Fay Eechaute; Lorraine Alice Theresa Peterson; Florence Irene Smith. Third row: Irene Louise Graff; Sharon Joanne Coleman; Carol Dianne Taylor; Etta Diane McRoberts; Anna Johanna Pool; Karen Leslie Wagner; Leslie Anne Downs; Marilyn Ann Goodale; Marlyn Gail Roszell; Janice Margaret Jones. Fourth row: Margaret Savage Sutherland; Margaret Ellen Rapson; Cheryl Verlynne DeYoung; Carol Ann Conrad; Carol Ann Palmer; Linda Elaine Liddle; Laurine Elizabeth Campbell; Beverley Ann Janet Bothwell; Rosemary Ann Jancey; Karen Allison Kribs" (C8 Sh5 B2 F2 38a); "To These, the Laurels - The presentation of awards and scholarships is a highlight of any graduation ceremony and yesterday's was no exception. This group of six brand-new graduate nurses were the winners of special awards for various phases of nursing efficiency. From left to right they are, back row, Miss Irene Graff, bedside proficiency; Miss Janet Bothwell, obstetrics scholarship; Miss Karen Wagner, operating room technique; Miss Anna Pool, surgical nursing. Front row, Miss Rosemary Jancey, general proficiency scholarship; Miss Charlene McClurg, class leadership" (C8 Sh5 B2 F2 38b); "Tomorrow's Nurses - Already evidencing their nursing proficiency, these three undergraduates were awarded general proficiency prizes by the Elgin County Chapter, R.N.A.O. Mutually admiring the coveted awards are, left to right, Miss Sylvia Bryce, Miss Anne Catton, junior students, and Miss Elaine Raymond, intermediate student" (C8 Sh5 B2 F2 38c); "Moment of Dedication - With their right hands uplifted, the 38 young women who make up the 1964 graduating class of St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital repeat the solemn words of the Florence Nightingale Pledge. Miss Dorothy Markle, Associate Director of Nursing, led the class in the pledge during the impressive graduation ceremonies of the School of Nursing, which were held yesterday afternoon in the amphitheatre at Alma College" (C8 Sh5 B2 F2 38d); "Kaleidoscope of Color - One of the largest crowds to ever attend a graduation ceremony of St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital School of Nursing was present for yesterday's exercises. The brightly colored costumes of the feminine part of the audience contrasted effectively with the vivid green of the Alma College amphitheatre, providing an eye-catching rainbow. It was a proud occasion for the parents, family members and friends of the 38 young women who received their diplomas and pins. In the foreground of the picture may be seen the outline of one of the graduates, as she awaits her 'big moment' " (C8 Sh5 B2 F2 38e).

Five black and white photographs used in St. Thomas Times-Journal article published June 9, 1966 with captions: "The Nursing Class of 1966 - The centre of all eyes yesterday, the 29 young women who make up the 1966 graduating class of St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital School of Nursing, made a pretty picture, crisply efficient in their white uniforms and proudly wearing their black-banded caps. Front row, left to right, are Irla Jean Irwin, Jean Elizabeth Elliott, Ruth Ann Burgess, Joan Elizabeth Bateman, Judith Elaine Townsend, Dianne Viola Gordon, Aafke Froukje Hovius, Carol Alice Jamieson, Barbara Joan Longhurst, Laura Jean Arthur. Second row, Victoria Dianne Teams, Leta Kaye Perritt, Carole Anne Dean, Catharine Ilene Lyons, Ann Harriet Wedge, Gloria Jean MacDonald, Martha Gail Phinney, Beverley Joyce Oliver, Margaret Sylvia Louise Bryce, Patricia Louise Ostrom. Third row, Constance Susan Boysenberry, Lynda Anne Loughridge, Margaret Susan McRae, Bernice Evylean Dunning, Shirley Anne Catton, Sharon Lee Slute, Linda Carol Durkee, Judith Ann Wheaton, Carol Ann Doerr" (C8 Sh5 B2 F2 43a); "International Flavor - Ann Harriet Wedge, whose home is in Grand Rapids, Michigan, is a member of the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital School of Nursing Class of '66, and on hand for the graduation ceremony yesterday were proud parents and grandparents. It was a big day for the entire family, for it was the 75th birthday of Mrs. Pearl Wedge, Port Huron, Michigan, the graduate's paternal grandmother, and it is 47 years since her maternal grandmother, Mrs. Herman T. Olson, of Tower, Minnesota, graduated as a nurse from the Swedish Hospital in Minnesota. Shown left to right are Miss Wedge; her mother and father, Mrs. Wedge and Reverend Martin O. Wedge, Grand Rapids; grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Olson, and Mrs. Wedge. Mr. Wedge, the new nurse's father, is a former pastor of Wortley Road Baptist Church in London, Ontario" (C8 Sh5 B2 F2 43b); "They Watch With Interest - Even standing room was at a premium yesterday afternoon in the garden theatre [amphitheatre] at Alma College, when the 1966 graduation ceremony for St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital School of Nursing was held. Parents, family members, friends and - of course - the all-important boy friends were on hand in record numbers to watch and applaud as the 29 young nurses received their diplomas and pins. Later, congratulations were personally offered before the graduates left for their receptions" (C8 Sh5 B2 F2 43c); "Nurses All - As the overflow audience at the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital School of Nursing graduation was told yesterday by B.G. Thacker, hospital administrator, the ceremonies have been held for the past 28 years in Alma College and on each of those graduation days, the sun has shone brightly. Two of the nurses who graduated in the class of 1938, Mrs. Alma Mason and Mrs. Eileen Clark, are members of the hospital staff and were presented at Wednesday's ceremony, which recalled many memories for them. Shown as they 'talk it over' with Miss Linda Durkee, left, one of the 1966 graduates, are Mrs. Clark, centre, and Mrs. Mason, right" (C8 Sh5 B2 F2 43d); "Award Winners - Graduation day and awards go hand in hand, as this group of happy young nurses discovered during yesterday's ceremony. They are the scholarship and award recipients of the Class of '66 of the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital School of Nursing. Left to right are Miss Carole Dean, general proficiency in emergency department nursing; Miss Victoria Teams, general proficiency in operating room technique; Miss Sylvia Bryce, general proficiency in bedside nursing; Miss Dianne Gordon, the Dr. Jerrold W. Snell scholarship in obstetrics; Miss Aafke Hovius, the general proficiency scholarship; Miss Barbara Longhurst, the award for general proficiency in surgical nursing" (C8 Sh5 B2 F2 43e).
