Reports include President's message, treasurer's reports and financial statements, lists of officers and directors, minutes of annual meetings, lists of Association-sponsored conservation and other awards, Elgin County rainfall and crop heat unit statistics, practical advice articles, reports on Association-sponsored research and other projects, Soil and Crop Advisor's reports, lists of Association events, and information about courses and seminars of interest to Association members.
The Elgin Soil and Crop Improvement Association was established ca. 1946 under its original name, the Elgin County Soil and Crop Improvement Association. Beginning in 1949, in conjunction with the Elgin County Branch of the Ontario Department of Agriculture and Food, the Association organized the Elgin County Seed Fair and Crop Convention, held annually in St. Thomas, Ontario. Over the years, the Association was involved in various activities to promote improvements in crop production efficiency and yield in Elgin County, including collecting and compiling annual crop yield statistics and sponsoring a series of independent research reports and articles.
The records comprising this fonds were originally in the custody of the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food, Elgin County Branch. The branch was closed in the 1990s and the records were transferred to the custody of the Elgin County Library. The records were subsequently transferred to the Elgin County Archives.
