Notes
The Battle of Courcelette, part of the Somme offensive during WWI, was fought from September 15-22, 1916. On the side of the Allies were the British, French, and Canadian, and Germany represented the Axis Powers. The 22nd (French-Canadian) and 25th (of Nova Scotia) Battalions were able to capture the village of Courelette, defending it from German attack for three more days, resulting in Allied victory. Canadian victories like these helped bring Canada to the world stage as a legitimate country.

Coyle. The Aylmer Condensed Milk Company In 1892 David Marshall partnered with George Allworth to build a condensed milk and cream evaporating plant – the first of its kind. Orders came in from all over the world and they began operating 24 hours a day. Marshall later bought the Condensed Milk Company from Allworth and included it under the Aylmer Canners. Unfortunately, no known photo exists of the first building the company operated out of. In 1907 a $60,000 brick building was built for the Aylmer Condensed Milk Company on the east side of John Street North. This building was used until the company’s closing. Carnation Milk in Aylmer On November 27, 1916 the Aylmer Condensed Milk Company was purchased by the Carnation Company. This marked the first Carnation plant in Canada! At this point the factory employed about 75 people. Employment at the factory reached its peak during the Second World War and employed roughly 150 people. The Later Years As of the 1980s the Aylmer plant of Carnation employed 48 people in the condensed milk division and 25 in the can division. Production at the Aylmer Carnation Company plant later stopped and the plant was closed on May 1st, 1987. The building sat empty and with no other interest in it, was later torn down in 1993.

Description
Black and white photograph. Nine men and one dog pose for a photograph. One man stands in the very back row, wearing a suit with an ascot. Five men are seated on chairs in the middle row, each wearing a uniform (which bears the letter "A," with wings sprouting from the letter) and hockey skates, and each holds a hockey stick. Three men sit in the front row on the floor, also wearing the above mentioned uniform. The man in the middle of the front row reclines, and holds a dog in place with his left hand. The dog sits, facing the camera, and appears to be a Jack Russell terrier. The men in the front row at either end cross their hockey sticks, and a hockey puck rests on top of them at their intersection. The backdrop is decorated with arched windows, columns, and foliage. The matting around the image is white or cream, with a thin embossing around its inner border. The words "Aylmer Hockey Team, 1904-5." in a gold or copper colour are on the matting above the image, and below the image text lists the men photographed and their position on the team. A stamp reading "L.F. Clarke" appears on the lower right of the matting. Displayed in a wooden frame and overlaid with glass. The frame has been painted white and is carved with intricate, geometric designs. Name "Arthur Prescoe" on back of frame. Full Text: "Aylmer Hockey Team, 1904-5. H.B. Youell, Manager.; W.H. Dawson, R.W.; B. Deeton, Goal.; J.G. Brownlee, C.; A. Pascoe, R.; W. Taylor, L.W.; Capt. G. Dunning, C.; R. Fear, Goal.; H. Ratley, C.P."

The man is balding, bears a moustache, and wears a suit with a tie. The woman wears a dark-coloured dress with large, puffy sleeves, and embroidery on her chest. Description
Framed ink sketch of the Carnegie Public Library of Aylmer, drawn in 1998. Currently 62 Centre St., at the corner of Centre and Sydenham. We view the building as if approaching from the right side. The building is brick and two-storeyed, with an entryway flanked by Ionic columns. Above the doorway is an empty pediment, except for a semicircular window. Below the pediment is a sign which reads "PUBLIC LIBRARY." A set of curved stairs descends from the door, which expand as they reach street level. On the right hand corner of the building is the date "1912." Ivy climbs the walls of the building. In the bottom right corner of the image is the signature of artist Jane Hughes, and the year '98. The image has a dark green matting. Displayed in wooden frame and overlaid with glass. The inner border of the frame is golden in colour. On the back of the frame is a business card. Full text: "Pen & Ink House Sketches. Jane Hughes, 22 Centre Street, St. Thomas, ON N5R 2Z2, (519) 633-4218." Built in 1912 in the Edwardian style and the Town's Library for 70 years, it was but one of many financed by a grant from U.S. Steel magnate, Andrew Carnegie. Rusticated cement block, finely mortared red brick, and concrete lintels are typical of the style. The classical and Egyptian features about the door are unique. As of entry, June 2020, the building houses a Desjardins Insurance Agent.

Description
Framed chromatype photographic oil painting of a woman. She appears from the chest upward - her body is turned to the left in a three-quarter view, and she faces the viewer. She wears her hair up, pulled back from her face, glasses with oval frames, and a necklace with pink gems and flower-shaped charms. Her dress is pink, and on top of the dress she wears a black vest-like garment with black laces crossed across her chest. The background is a light brown or beige, and the signature of W. Edgar Cantelon appears at the bottom right, along with the word "Simcoe." The image is displayed without glass in a wooden, oval-shaped frame, either painted golden or coated in gold leaf. Chromatypes, photo-crayotypes, or crayon collotypes, were produced through the hand-colouring of photographs by the application of crayons or pigments over a photographic impression. To create a "crayon enlargement" such as this sketch, one would use a magic lantern to project the photograph onto the back of the drawing paper or canvas, on which the artist could sketch the projected image and add detail in graphite, charcoal, chalk, oils, or watercolour as said artist saw fit.
