Scope and Content
Construction of the St. Thomas-Elgin Memorial Centre in St. Thomas, 1953. Looking south down Wilson Avenue (on the right) towards Elm Street. The Chesapeake & Ohio railyards take up much of the left hand side of the picture to the south of the Centre being built. The C&O eight-stall roundhouse (demolished in the 1980s) is the prominent building on the top left-hand side, behind the rail cars. Elmdale Public School is on the top right (now a Medical Centre, and across from Tim Horton's today). Beaver Lumber is also visible on Wilson Avenue (much of the company was destroyed by fire in June 1960). The photograph was likely taken from the roof of the Armouries.

Owned in 1953 by George Roscoe Chalmers. It is unchanged except for new roof and chimney" Photo by Stollery. The modern-day location is likely 49520 Calton Line. A George Parker is listed on that lot, in the 1864 Tremaines Atlas.
