Physical Description
1 photograph : b&w
Scope and Content
Black and white photograph showing a train travelling westbound across the Michigan Central Railway Bridge, St. Thomas, ca. 1928. View is looking west from Sunset Drive with the Fingal Line hill in the background. Notes the signs reading "Port Stanley 8 miles" and promoting the Orion House hotel in Port Stanley. The Bridgeview Service Station on the west side of what is now Sunset Drive is partially visible at lower right, with the name of the proprietor, Benjamin Stanforth or Staniforth. This was the second bridge built in this location - an iron trestle built in 1883 by the Michigan Central Railway and replacing the original wooden trestle built in 1872 by the Canada Southern Railway. The bridge shown here was demolished about a year after this photo was taken, in 1929 and replaced with the current concrete trestle.
