Scope and Content
Shows the arrival at of an electric-powered (locomotive number 6) passenger train at the London and Port Stanley Railway Beach Terminal at Port Stanley ca. 1920. The electrification of the L & PS system was completed in 1915. View is looking east along Edith Cavell Boulevard and includes the fence at the west end of the terminal platform, passengers entering and leaving the terminal platform, a weigh scale (1 cent for weight and fortune), the terminal shelter (the open-ended building at right) and the London and Port Stanley Railway ice house (partially visible directly to the east of the terminal shelter). The entrance to the Port Stanley Incline Railway is just out of the picture to the north (left). File includes:

This was one of the first L & PS trains to operate following the electrification of the L & PS system. Many of the passengers are wearing ribbons, likely identifying them as attendees at a picnic organized by a company or organization. Partially visible at right is a Port Stanley beach amusement facility, possibly the roller coaster. View is looking east.

View of the main beach and harbour entrance at Port Stanley, looking southeast from Fraser Heights, ca. 1914. View includes the London and Port Stanley Railway slip dock and tracks to the beach terminal; the west breakwater (pier) and lighthouse; the Stanley Beach Casino (later Hopkins Casino), which opened on July 1, 1909; a pleasure boat docked at the Casino pier (possibly the vessel "Rambler" shown in C3 Sh6 B1 F44); and the beach boardwalk (constructed 1908). This image pre-dates 1915, when the London and Port Stanley Railway was electrified (overhead wires and electric stanchions are absent in this image), and pre-dates 1917, when the London and Port Stanley Railway Bath House was constructed. Note that the ferris wheel formerly located immediately to the east of the Stanley Beach Casino (see image C3 Sh6 B1 F44) is absent in this image. File includes:

Black and white photograph used in St. Thomas Times-Journal article published January 31, 1957 with caption: "Last Excursion - On Wednesday afternoon, 190 youngsters from Trafalgar Public School, London, anxious to take a last ride on the L. & P.S. to Port Stanley, went on an organized excursion to the lakeside and made a great outing of it. Here a few of them are seen streaming aboard the train at London. After tomorrow, the excursion would not have been possible unless they had been content to come only as far as St. Thomas, as the service between St. Thomas and Port Stanley terminates on Friday. Between St. Thomas and London the passenger service will be continued until Monday, February 18."

Two black and white photographs used in St. Thomas Times-Journal article published December 16, 1965 with captions:
"Surprise Bouquet - Mrs. A.E. Feindel, of 416 Beatrice Avenue, London, was pleasantly surprised yesterday afternoon when she was presented with a bouquet of roses as she prepared to board a Canadian National Railways train at London. The train was the new rail liner, termed a 'railway automobile', and it was making its initial trip from London to Toronto. Mrs. Feindel was its first woman passenger. Presenting the flowers is Douglas V. Gonder, of Toronto, vice-president of the CNR." (C8 Sh3 B1 F2 6a)
"At The Ready - During a ceremony inaugurating a new rail liner service from London to Toronto Wednesday, these two young women employees of the Canadian National Railways held a company flag just prior to the train's break-through.
