Scope and Content
Black and white photograph used in St. Thomas Times-Journal article published February 19, 1969 with caption: "The Ford Maverick- The Maverick, Ford Motor Company's new compact, is true to its name- an individualist among American automobiles. Ford has made the new car several inches shorter than present domestic compacts but slightly larger than those coming from Europe and Japan. The foreign offerings captured one in nine auto sales last month and Ford hopes their new model will stop this trend. The Maverick will go on sale in mid-April with reported basic price tag of under $2,000 in the United States. No announcement has yet been made concerning the price in Canada. The production of Mavericks will begin at the St. Thomas Assembly Plant on March 17, with the press preview scheduled for March 31. The car will go on sale on April 17."
